Selecting Course Materials

Gather Class Materials - CurricuNet & Bookstore

  • Review your course's Course Outline of Record (COR) on CurricuNet to get an idea of the learning objectives, course materials and course components. Reach out to your Dean and faculty colleagues for advice on navigating and implementing your COR
  • Place your course material orders with the Bookstorebefore the deadline.
    • The sooner you place your orders the better to give students more advance notice of required materials, to give the Bookstore time to find the best deals for students, and to give the library time to order reserve copies.
    • If you are using OER or ZTC materials, notify Jai Kumar (Bookstore Manager) at [email protected], and Sarah Harmon (OER/ZTC Coordinator) at [email protected].

Consider ZTC/OER Options for Your Courses

S.B. 1359 states Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) course materials “may include open educational resources, institutionally licensed campus library materials that all students enrolled in the course have access to use, and other properly licensed and adopted materials.”

Zero textbook cost (ZTC)  means that students do not incur any costs for purchasing course materials. Zero-cost to the students does not guarantee zero-cost to the institution, i.e. subscription databases, library equipment loans.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are high-quality teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license, such as a Creative Commons license, that permits their free use and repurposing by others, and may include other resources that are legally available and free of cost to students. (Hewlett). OER Materials may include textbooks, course readings, articles, and journals, course packs/readers, quizzes, streaming videos, or virtually any other material used for educational purposes.
